A Fond Farewell and Happy Retirement to Our Beloved Director, Lisa Hunszinger

After 13 years of dedicated leadership, inspiration, and music-making, our Alberta Northern Lights Chorus family is both celebrating and bidding a heartfelt farewell to our incredible director, Lisa Hunszinger, as she steps into a well-deserved retirement from directing.

Lisa has been a guiding light for our chorus, bringing with her over 35 years of Sweet Adelines experience and a lifelong passion for music. Her journey began with her very first piano lesson at age four, and from there she built an impressive career in music education and performance. With her Grade 10 Royal Conservatory piano, Bachelor of Education in Music, and experience as a singer, teacher, arranger, and coach, Lisa has inspired countless musicians and singers not only in our chorus but across western Canada and within the entire Sweet Adelines organization.

Since joining us as our Director 13 years ago, Lisa’s vision and passion have transformed our chorus. Under her direction:

  • We proudly achieved the level of Master Singers, earning Lisa the title of Master Director in 2024 with a score of 613.

  • We performed on stage in Phoenix at Sweet Adelines International Harmony Classic in 2022, bringing home 3rd place.

  • We earned a wild card invitation to the International Chorus Competition in 2024, a true testament to her leadership and our shared commitment to excellence.

Beyond her musical achievements, Lisa’s warmth, humour, and fun loving attitude have created a chorus culture that feels like family. Whether she was leading us through a complex song, celebrating a performance at Boston Pizza with a glass of wine, or indulging in chips, dip, and a little chocolate in our hotel rooms as we arrived at competition or camp, Lisa has shown us the perfect blend of discipline and delight.

Although she is retiring as our director, Lisa isn’t stepping away from Sweet Adelines entirely. She will continue to serve as a Judge at both regional and international competitions, sharing her expertise and passion with singers across the globe, and will continue to explore music and singing in her life in a new way.

Lisa, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the music, the laughter, and the memories. You have left an indelible mark on our chorus, and we are forever grateful. We wish you nothing but joy and fulfillment in the years ahead.

As we begin the search for our next director, stay tuned for more details. For now, we celebrate you, Lisa—our director, mentor, and dear friend.

With love and endless gratitude,
The Alberta Northern Lights Chorus 🎶
